Apple has finally launched its music store, iTunes in Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya, giving its customers in these African countries access to over 20 million songs available to purchase and download.
This news confirms earlier reports that Apple was set to launch its music store in South Africa in September, even though it came two months later.
The iTunes Store features a great selection of local and international music from all the major labels, including independent labels and features local artists such as D’Banj in Nigeria and Zahara in South Africa as well as international artists including The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Coldplay.
Still, the iTunes Store doesn’t have most of the Nigerian songs available on iROKING, Spinlet or Truspot, the leading local digital music platforms with boasts the largest catalogue of Nigerian and African music.
The company also provided access to iTunes Match, a service that stores your entire music library in iCloud for access at any time, from any iOS device, and available for purchase on the iTunes Store.
The iTunes Store is now available in 119 countries, following its launch in 56 additional countries including Russia and India. Although, there’s a wide selection of films available for rent or purchase for movie fans in select countries, this feature is yet to be available in Nigeria and South Africa.
